Description

The ultimate game day fusion featuring a juicy grilled beef patty loaded with rich chili, melted cheddar cheese, and crunchy nacho chips. This crowd-pleasing burger combines the best of nachos and burgers for an unforgettable tailgating experience. Crafted for discerning home chefs seeking restaurant-quality results at their next football party.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean to fat ratio recommended)

1 packet chili seasoning mix

1 can (15 oz) prepared chili

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

4 hamburger buns, preferably brioche

1 cup crushed tortilla chips (nacho chips)

Optional toppings: pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños, queso fresco, guacamole, sour cream

Optional: refried beans, crumbled chorizo, nacho cheese sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

Olive oil for grilling

Instructions

1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (375-400°F). Shape 1 lb ground beef into 4 patties, making them slightly larger than your buns to account for shrinkage. Create a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent bulging.

2. In a separate pan over medium heat, cook any remaining ground beef with chili seasoning mix until browned, breaking it into small pieces. Add the can of chili and simmer for 5-7 minutes until flavors meld. This is your chili beef topping.

3. Season burger patties with salt and pepper. Place on preheated grill and cook for 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness (internal temp 140-145°F). Do not press down on patties while grilling.

4. During the last minute of cooking, add shredded cheddar cheese to the top of each patty and close grill lid to melt.

5. Toast hamburger buns on the grill for 30-60 seconds until lightly golden.

6. Assemble burgers: Place cheese-topped patty on bottom bun, spoon generous amount of warm chili beef mixture over patty, add desired toppings (pico de gallo, jalapeños, queso fresco), and crown with crushed tortilla chips for that signature nacho crunch.

7. Top with remaining bun half and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

For best results, use 80/20 ground beef for optimal juiciness and flavor. The fat content keeps burgers moist and delicious.

Make the chili beef mixture ahead of time and reheat before serving for easier party prep.

Toast buns directly on grill for authentic charred flavor and structural integrity to hold all the toppings.

Don’t skip the indentation in the center of each patty – this prevents the dreaded burger bulge.

For extra gourmet touch, brush buns with garlic butter before toasting.

Serve with classic sides like French fries, coleslaw, or crispy onion rings.

Leftovers can be stored in refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat in 350°F oven for 8-10 minutes.
