Description

These Crispy Air Fryer French Toast Sticks are a game-changer for breakfast! With their perfectly golden exterior and custardy interior, they deliver that ideal crispy-soft contrast in every bite. Made with thick Texas toast and a rich vanilla-cinnamon custard, then air fried to perfection—they’re easier, healthier, and (dare I say) tastier than traditional versions. Perfect for dipping and guaranteed to make any morning special!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices thick-cut bread (Texas toast works wonders!)
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar for serving

  • Maple syrup for dipping

Instructions

  • Slice each thick-cut bread piece into three or four sticks (depending on bread size).
  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt until smooth and silky.
  • Dip each bread stick into the batter, allowing it to soak up just enough to get coated without becoming soggy. Let excess drip off.
  • Place dipped bread sticks in your air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving small spaces between each piece for air circulation.
  • Set air fryer to 375°F and cook for 7-8 minutes total, flipping halfway through, until golden-brown and crisp on all sides.
  • Sprinkle generously with powdered sugar while still warm.

  • Serve immediately with maple syrup for dipping.

Notes

  • Slightly stale bread works better than fresh for this recipe as it absorbs the custard without falling apart.
  • For extra decadence, try rolling the hot french toast sticks in cinnamon-sugar right after cooking.
  • These freeze beautifully! Cool completely, freeze in a single layer, then transfer to a freezer bag. Reheat directly from frozen in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes.

  • For a dairy-free version, substitute coconut cream for heavy cream and your favorite plant-based milk.
