Description

These Crispy Oven-Baked Sweet Potato Fries are the perfect combination of sweet and savory – golden-brown on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with flavor from smoked paprika and garlic. Skip the deep fryer and discover the secret to achieving that coveted crunch in your oven! They’re nutritious, easy to make, and guaranteed to disappear fast whether served as a snack, appetizer, or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sweet potatoes (about 2 pounds total)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt (plus a pinch extra, to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for a little kick)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep: Heat your oven to 425°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  • Slice ‘Em Right: Wash and scrub those sweet potatoes. Peel if desired, though skins contain extra nutrients. Slice into long, even fries about ½-inch thick, trying to keep them uniform.
  • Season the Goods: In a large bowl, toss the cut fries with olive oil until lightly coated. Sprinkle in the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne (if using). Mix gently until evenly seasoned.
  • Arrange & Bake: Spread fries in a single layer on the prepared sheet, giving each one breathing room. Bake in the hot oven for 20 minutes.
  • Flip & Finish: After 20 minutes, remove and flip each fry with a spatula. Return to the oven for another 10–15 minutes, until edges are golden-brown and crisp.
  • Serve ‘Em Up: Transfer to a serving platter, sprinkle with a bit more sea salt and chopped parsley. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For maximum crispiness, don’t overcrowd the pan – give those fries space!
  • Try soaking cut fries in cold water for 30 minutes, then pat completely dry before seasoning to remove excess starch and improve crispiness.
  • These fries are best enjoyed immediately, as they’ll soften when stored.
  • For extra flavor variations, try cinnamon and a touch of brown sugar for a sweet twist, or curry powder for an Indian-inspired version.
  • If your fries aren’t crisping up, ensure your oven is truly at temperature by using an oven thermometer – many run hotter or cooler than indicated.
