4 large yellow onions, thinly sliced 3 tablespoons unsalted butter 1 teaspoon salt 4 cups beef broth 1/2 cup dry white wine 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1 bay leaf 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme 1 cup Gruyère cheese, grated 4 thick slices French baguette 2 tablespoons olive oil Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
