Description

Delicious pretzel dogs wrapped in crispy, maple whiskey candied bacon. Perfect for parties or game day!


Ingredients

Scale

1 lb hot dogs

1 lb thick-cut bacon

1/2 cup maple syrup

1/4 cup whiskey

1 tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

2 cups warm water

1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup baking soda

1 egg (for egg wash)

Coarse sea salt (for topping)


Instructions

1. In a saucepan, combine maple syrup, whiskey, brown sugar, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes, then let cool.

2. Wrap each hot dog in a slice of bacon and secure with a toothpick.

3. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

4. In a bowl, combine warm water and yeast, let it sit for 5 minutes.

5. Stir in flour until a dough forms. Knead for 5 minutes until smooth.

6. Divide dough into pieces, roll into long ropes, and wrap around each bacon-wrapped hot dog.

7. In a pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda. Boil each pretzel dog for 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet.

8. Brush each pretzel dog with the egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

9. Brush the maple whiskey mixture over each pretzel dog.

10. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

For an extra kick, add a pinch of smoked paprika to the maple mixture.

This recipe can be made ahead and baked just before serving for a hot snack!
