Description

Smooth, rich cold brew coffee made easily in a mason jar. This foolproof method creates perfect concentrate that stays fresh for up to 2 weeks. No expensive equipment needed!

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup coarsely ground coffee (preferably medium-dark roast)

6 cups filtered water (room temperature)

1 large mason jar (64 oz recommended)

Cold brew filter or fine-mesh strainer

Cheesecloth (optional, for extra filtering)

Instructions

1. Add coarsely ground coffee to clean mason jar, ensuring even distribution across bottom

2. Pour room temperature filtered water slowly in circular pattern, saturating all coffee grounds completely

3. Stir gently with long spoon to eliminate dry pockets, avoiding aggressive agitation

4. Install cold brew filter according to manufacturer instructions or cover with cheesecloth

5. Steep at room temperature for 6-8 hours, then transfer to refrigerator

6. Continue steeping for additional 16-18 hours (24 hours total steeping time)

7. Remove filter carefully to avoid spilling grounds into concentrate

8. Strain through fine-mesh strainer if additional clarification needed

9. Store concentrate in refrigerator in airtight mason jar

10. Serve over ice, diluting 1:1 with water or milk as desired

Notes

Coffee-to-water ratio can be adjusted: use 1:8 for milder concentrate or 1:4 for stronger

Concentrate keeps fresh 10-14 days refrigerated in airtight container

Grind size matters: too fine creates muddy texture, too coarse under-extracts

Water quality affects final flavor – use filtered water for best results

Can substitute cold brew tea using same method with 6-8 hour steeping time
